It's not too heavy and has a smooth bottom. I frequently have to put it back in the drawer or move it across my desk so it's a plus for me, but if you want it to STAY PUT stay put, you might need some museum putty or something.
It's kind of small. Again, I keep it in a desk drawer and only use it for two needles (my main and one back up) so it's a perfect size for me, but if you're looking for something heavy-duty, you might be disappointed. The cushion isn't deep enough for my small needle to sink all the way in vertically (I push them in sideways and it's fine) which might be a plus if you want to be sure you won't lose any needles, but longer needles will probably stick out.
Basically, if you want a cute little pin cushion for light use, it's perfect. If you want a serious tool for your sewing room, this is the wrong product.
Someone complained that the fabric and stuffing degrades easily. I think the stuffing is sawdust in a plastic bag wrap. If the fabric degrades, just cut another circle of cotton fabric and recover it, securing the bottom with a heavy thread.
