   These are surprisingly nice for the low price. I would have given them five stars if they had been able to glide through yarn more easily. The extra sizes are very helpful and the colors are really pretty. Putting a little cornstarch on them might help them glide better. They don’t have sharp edges. I’m wondering what might be in the pretty paint, but that’s the case with almost everything these days. This is a very cheerful set and the bright colors make them fun to use. There are probably size charts online which would make sizing easier since they don’t have US sizes printed on them.

   As a beginner it's awesome to get a set like this all at once. It doesn't break the bank, it gives me a variety to work with, and they're smooth and sturdy. I'd recommend it, and I will probably buy myself a second set when I inevitably lose a few.

   Overall, it's a good starter set for the price. I used my knitting gauge to check the hook sizes. The 8mm, 9mm and 10mm (red, purple and blue hooks below) are all actually 8 mm size. Beyond that, the hooks from 2 mm to 3.5 mm are rather flimsy. I have a steel 1.5 mm hook that's more solid than those in aluminum (shown below). This is a good variety pack as long as you don't do much work with the small sizes or need anything beyond 8 mm. I use this mainly for picking up dropped knit stitches and crochet borders on knit projects.
